The historic “Polsterermühle”, which has been closed down since 1992, is located on the south-western outskirts of Vienna, at the foothills of the Vienna Woods. The design concept was to preserve the old bakery building with the brick chimneys, and the impressive trees as an identity-defining feature. The building was intended to house the community facilities for the three new buildings. Unfortunately, the trees fell and demolished the old building. In the following revisions, an irregular, semi-public “village square” develops on the slope side as access to the staircases and the ground floor flats. The manageable facility with approx. 40 apartments is defined by its urban spatial structure. Unfortunately, a large number of deviations from the original plans prevented the targeted quality of the system.
