The Italian Monuments Office of Friuli Venezia Giulia commissioned us to develop a “Development and Structure” study. This quickly became an urban “Vision Aquileia 2069” – for the 2250th anniversary of the city to achieve a long-term perspective. We have cooperatively developed a critical and constructive roadmap with all those involved: the future development will include three interchange centers that are connected via an outer ring and thus enable a virtually car-free city center. The interesting discourses have mainly developed around the topics of “pure preservation” on the one hand and “Renaissance City of Aquileia” with new functions (schools, hotels, subsidized housing, …) on the other. The comprehensive work serves the further urban development and, we hope, the revision of the zoning and development plan.
