Abstract to the talk

One of the rarer challenges for Lorenzateliers is the development of a “globally unique advertising medium”: a hovering wing made of a spatial steel structure with an innovative outer shell. The new flagship store of the kitchen manufacturer BORA in Herford, Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia), leans towards the highway and engages in a dialogue with approximately 30,000 drivers per day at the entrance to Herford. The open spatial concept with inclined openings, as well as the metallic material combination, conveys the futuristic message of the company. The technically highly demanding structure of the showroom, consisting of ten-meter-high diamond-shaped steel frames with rounded corners, was designed and calculated in collaboration with the civil engineers from werkraum ingenieure in Vienna and constructed, manufactured, and assembled in detail by the specialists of Pichler projects from Bozen. The weather-protected placement of 80 vehicles under the BORA wing, which hovers on lightweight steel supports, allows for the maximization of the unsealed area and consequently creates a green space that takes into account the neighbors’ wishes. The energy concept is tailored to the specific use of the building.
