In May 23, Peter Lorenz gave an interesting but above all critical lecture on “About watching the future” at the BIG See Conference in Ljubljana. As an introduction Peter Lorenz points out the missing beauty in architecture – in reference to Michael Köhlmeier’s New Year’s speech of 2017 about the lack of beauty. The responsibility of architects, however, goes beyond the creation of beauty, and must urgently and compellingly include issues such as sustainability and climate change in their creation. In his lecture, Peter Lorenz emphasizes the importance of redesigning urban commercial areas and shows under the catchword “metamorphosis” his urban vision for these ugly parts of the city – namely the Vertical Addition.
